Sarfraz was born near Faisalabad in 1971 and left Pakistan for Britain when he was two years old. He grew up in Luton.
His acclaimed memoir, Greetings from Bury Park (2007) tells the story of growing up as a young Pakistani boy destined for backbreaking labor and adult responsibilities, only to have his life forever changed by hearing Springsteen’s music in college.
A film inspired by his life, Blinded by the Light, starring Viveik Kalra, Hayley Atwell, Rob Brydon, Kulvinder Ghir and Nell Williams was released in August 2019. Manzoor co-wrote the script, with Gurinder Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges.
Martin Ballard will be our host once more and each ticket will come with a signed copy of Sarfraz’s excellent memoir Greetings from Bury Park.
CHUTNEY IVY RESTAURANT & BAR will be serving up a beautiful 2-course lunch and all profits will be going towards Lamp Charity’s Independent Community Mental Health support across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland.
